Drug interactions
There are a large number of documented interactions between anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications and other prescription drugs. The current or individual drug Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) sheets (available at www.medicines.org.uk/emc) should be consulted for complete listings.
For interactions between anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications and drugs that are available in the BNF Dental Practitioner’s Formulary see Interactions with drugs prescribed by dentists. Advice on management can be found in the BNF and SDCEP Drug Prescribing for Dentistry guidance.
- When prescribing drugs to patients who are taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, be aware of potential interactions that might affect coagulation levels (see Interactions with drugs prescribed by dentists, the BNF and SDCEP Drug Prescribing for Dentistry for details).
